Powder Highway – The Ultimate Powder Highway Trip
If you are considering making the trip through the powder highway read this, I promise it will be well worth the 5-7 minutes ; )
The powder highway is a dream trip for most skier and snowboarders, ever since I can remember I’ve always dreamt of making the trip through the powder highway.
But there has always been 3 things holding me back from making the trip happen.
- Friends that will commit to making the trip
- Having someone to show us where all the goodies are at the mountains
- Moneys
This year however, the stars aligned and Drew and I made it happen with a little bit of help from Fresh Adventures. 🙂
I’m telling you right now, if you are considering a trip through the powder highway go with Fresh Adventures. It will make your trip infinitely more EPIC!
And here is why:
Let’s start with the first issue…
Having friends that will commit to making the trip.
One of the best parts about Fresh Adventures is the fact that you can go on this trip solo and come back with great friendships.
I’ve planned a trip on the powder highway 3 different times before this with 5 different friends and you know what happened each time?
They bailed… For some the dates didn’t work, others needed to save money. The excuses go on and on.
So for Drew and me, we just decided to pull the trigger with Fresh Adventures and let all our friends back home get super jealous of our social posts while skiing the powder highway 🙂
And now we have new friendships with skiers and riders from all over the world.
I now have a couch to crash on if I ever decided to go to Australia. Never would I have thought that would happen.
One of the most interesting parts about taking a trip like this through the powder highway is that everyone on the trip made the same decision you did. I feel like this results in a higher level of connection with the people on the trip because you all hold experience likes this in such high regard.
Now onto the second issue:
Having someone to show us where all the goodies are along the powder highway
Skiing a couple days at an epic mountain, without someone that really knows the mountain, can be good. But having someone who knows the mountain like the back of their hand is infinitely better!
We didn’t waste any time finding the goods. From the first run, Fresh Adventures took us to some incredible stashes, which I have been sworn to secrecy over 😉
We skied lines I would never have found or even known existed.
At Kicking Horse and Whitewater I had a couple of the best runs of my life, which was a combo of conditions, terrain and the knowledge of that terrain from our Fresh Adventure guide.
I would have never skied those runs if it wasn’t for Fresh Adventures.
Last but not least:
the money issue.
There are a couple ways you can plan your powder highway trip. The first is the ski bum way. Staying at hostels, maybe sleeping in your your van that you drove across the country, eating canned tuna 3 meals a day and so on.
That sounds awesome and if that is the powder highway trip you want to plan, then stop reading this and just commit to it!
For the rest of you, keep reading.
When Drew and I first started planning this trip we worked out all the expenses.
- Car rental for 11 days: 4×4 SUV with roof rack $2,101 CAD through Enterprise.
- Hotels for 10 days: $145 CAD on average with tax each night.
- Lift tickets for 8 days $705 CAD with 20% discount for multi day tickets. (Two days each at Revelstoke, Kicking Horse, Whitewater and Red Mountain)
- Gas: (assuming 18 miles per gallon) $4.77 CAD a gallon. Estimate $170 CAD.
Total per person: $2,565.50 CA
(As a caveat, these were the prices we found when researching our trip in early 2018. So they may change)
For Fresh Adventures to cover all of this, plus trips to 3 hot springs, 2 ferry rides and guiding the entire trip so you don’t have to think about anything but making sure you show up, they charge $3,145. (If you use the coupon RY Outfitters to get 10% off)
This means it costs $580 CAD more to book your trip through Fresh Adventures, which is $449.21 USD. (winter 2018 numbers)
$449.21 is pretty cheap to have a guide for a 11 straight days on the powder highway… right?
So in terms of price alone, Fresh Adventures is not much more and you get a hell of a lot for your money. Not to mention you save a ton of time because you don’t have to plan the trip!
I’ve spent a large portion of my life skiing in some incredible places, but I have to say that skiing the powder highway with Fresh Adventures is pretty damn close to the top of my list.
If you are considering a trip through the powder highway, just reach out to Fresh Adventures. I promise you won’t regret it.
You can also get 10% off your Powder Highway trip if you use the code RY Outfitters.
