More about the episode…

Josh sits down with Slyk Shades founder Josh Fitzmaurice. Slyk Shades is an eyewear brand delivering sustainably made, mission-based eyewear with a sleek (and slick) aesthetic. Each pair sold supports a larger mission including involvement with 1treeplanted.org as well as acting as a huge advocate for mental health. Why the connection between sunglasses and such a strong mission of philanthropy? Slyk was started and sparked from the hardship and adversity founder Josh Fitzmaurice faced after getting misdiagnosed and put on a drug that damaged his nervous system. After being forced to leave his job Fitzmaurice began his long road to recovery and to keep him sharp and active while being bedridden, he began teaching himself fashion design through youtube which would eventually leading him to eyewear design. Now, only a few months old, Slyk has grown rampantly and in an incredibly short amount of time. With building Slyk, Josh hopes to spread a message of hope that goes with a little bit of his story while crafting a mission first brand that allows its products to bring the message to light.
